Resistors and Potentiometers

A resistor is a circuit element that opposes the flow of current in a circuit.  It is characterized by its resistance which is measured in ohms.

A potentiometer is a variable resistor used where an adjustable amount of resistance is necessary, (for example in an audio volume control).
